Direct answer
You burn out because you live in a pendulum: on one side, you hand over more and more power seeking satisfaction; on the other, you try to heal from the exhaustion that surrender creates. Both extremes keep you dependent on them, which is why you always return to where you started.
Andrea Eboli describes this back-and-forth as O Pêndulo, the pendulum. On one side, you give more: more work, more devotion, more attempts to make happiness arrive through accumulation. Since it's never enough, you give still more, and guilt sets in because giving on one side means failing on the other.
When burnout hits, you swing to the opposite extreme: years of therapy, practices, trips that compensate for a moment. And then you return.
Why healing at the extreme doesn't hold
- Chasing more and trying to heal are two sides of the same movement. Neither returns the power to you.
- The relief lasts as long as the gesture does. Afterward, the starting point is still there.
Conscious power lies at neither extreme. It sits at the Centro do Pêndulo, the center of the pendulum: the place from which you feel, choose and act without being dragged. It's not about stopping work or love. It's about no longer being their hostage.
